Legal information

Terms and conditions

For bean orders and brew class bookings placed with Filterfabrik.

Last updated: 1 March 2026

§ 1 Scope

These terms and conditions apply to every contract you conclude through this website with Filterfabrik UG (haftungsbeschränkt), Gottschedstraße 27, 04109 Leipzig, Germany. That covers shipped and collected coffee beans as well as bookings for our brew class.

A consumer is any natural person who enters into a legal transaction for purposes that are predominantly outside their trade, business or profession. An entrepreneur is anyone acting in the course of their trade, business or profession.

We object to any deviating terms of the customer. Such terms become part of the contract only if we have expressly agreed to them in text form.

§ 2 Conclusion of contract

The presentation of products on this website is not a binding offer but a non-binding invitation to order.

By submitting the completed order form you make a binding offer. Before submitting it you can review every entry in the basket and correct it using the usual keyboard and mouse functions, or abandon the order altogether.

We confirm receipt of your order by email without delay. That acknowledgement is not yet an acceptance. The contract comes into being once we expressly declare acceptance or dispatch the goods, at the latest when we hand the parcel to the carrier.

We store the text of the contract. The language of the contract is German; this English version is provided for information.

§ 3 Prices and shipping costs

All prices are final prices in euro and include statutory VAT. Coffee beans are invoiced at the reduced rate, drinks consumed on the premises at the standard rate.

Within Germany we charge a flat shipping fee of €4.90. Orders of €40.00 or more ship free within Germany. No shipping cost applies when you collect at the bar.

We currently ship within Germany only. For deliveries to other countries, please contact us by email beforehand.

§ 4 Payment

Payment is made by invoice. We send the invoice with the order confirmation; the amount is due in full within 14 days of the invoice date.

When you collect at the bar you can pay in cash, by Girocard or by credit card. If payment is late, the statutory rules on default apply.

§ 5 Delivery and roast schedule

We roast on Tuesdays and Fridays. Your order is assigned to the next roast after it reaches us and is dispatched the day after roasting, so the coffee arrives as fresh as possible.

Within Germany delivery normally takes one to three working days from dispatch. Stated delivery times are non-binding estimates unless we have expressly promised a fixed date.

Collection orders are held for you at the bar for seven days from the notification. After that we will get in touch.

If a coffee you ordered has sold out, we tell you without delay and refund any payment already made immediately.

§ 6 Retention of title

The goods delivered remain our property until they have been paid for in full.

§ 7 Warranty

The statutory rules on liability for defects apply. For consumers, claims for defects become time-barred two years after delivery of the goods.

Coffee is a natural product. Variations in colour, appearance and aroma within the customary range are not a defect. Every bag carries a roast date and a best-before date.

If a parcel arrives damaged, please tell us or the carrier as soon as you reasonably can. That helps us settle the matter with the carrier; it is not a condition of your statutory rights.

§ 8 Liability

We are liable without limitation for damage arising from injury to life, body or health and under the German Product Liability Act, and likewise without limitation for intent and gross negligence.

Where we slightly negligently breach a material contractual duty — one whose fulfilment makes proper performance of the contract possible in the first place and on whose observance you may regularly rely — our liability is limited to the foreseeable damage typical of this kind of contract. Liability is otherwise excluded.

§ 9 Brew class

The brew class costs €45.00 per person and lasts about two hours. The price includes the class, every coffee used during it and a bag of beans to take home.

Submitting the booking form is a binding registration. Your seat is reserved once we have confirmed the booking by email. Payment is made on the day, at the start of the class.

You may cancel free of charge, or move to another date, up to 48 hours before the class begins. For a later cancellation we charge 50 % of the class price, because the seat can usually no longer be filled. If you do not appear and have not cancelled, the full price falls due.

We run the class from two registrations onwards. If we do not reach that number, or the class is cancelled for another reason, we offer you an alternative date or refund any amount already paid in full.

§ 10 Right of withdrawal

Consumers have a statutory right of withdrawal for bean orders. The details, the deadlines and the model withdrawal form are set out in our withdrawal instructions.

§ 11 Dispute resolution

The European Commission provides a platform for online dispute resolution at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr. We are neither willing nor obliged to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.

§ 12 Final provisions

The law of the Federal Republic of Germany applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. For consumers this choice of law applies only in so far as it does not remove the protection of mandatory provisions of the state of their habitual residence.

If the customer is a merchant, a legal entity under public law or a special fund under public law, Leipzig is the exclusive place of jurisdiction for all disputes arising from the contractual relationship.

Should any provision of these terms be invalid, the validity of the remaining provisions is unaffected.
